Yes! I have worked with children all throughout my career and love doing so. The first session of counselling will be only with you as a parent/carer which will give us the opportunity to talk privately about any concerns you have and the hopes you have for counselling.
Depending on the age of your child I may ask you as their carer to stay in sessions with me or may invite you in at the end to discuss what we have covered in the session.
When I work with teens I will not share all the information from sessions with you but will be sure to share anything of importance as well as any concerns I have about risk or the safety of your child.

It can be a big step starting counselling and in first sessions I will be led by you in relation to how much you want to share about your history. What I would usually cover in a first session with someone is a bit about what has brought them to counselling, any history they feel it is important for me to know (usually headlines about their experiences, not details at this stage) and what their best hopes are for therapy. It is also a chance for people to ask any questions they might have of me. From there we will work out what the best way forward is in relation to your counselling.
